With numbers like that, it’s no wonder so many job seekers are turning to LinkedIn in search of new opportunities. However, with all of that competition, you also need to make an effort to help your profile stand out. Here are three simple suggestions:
1.) Upload a profile photo. Your profile photo is one of the first things a potential employer notices about you. If you’re going to take the time to fill out your LinkedIn profile, you should take the time to upload a profile photo as well. It doesn’t have to be a professional headshot or anything fancy. A clear, high-resolution photo featuring a smile on your face should do.
2.) Make your summary stand out. Your profile summary acts as an “about me” page. You want to use this space to include any relevant information about your education and job experience. In addition to providing some basic information about your skills and expertise, you should also highlight any special certifications you have. Many people feel awkward talking about themselves, but it’s important to sell yourself. Remember, your summary doesn’t have to be perfect. You can tweak it later on as necessary.
3.) Build your network. LinkedIn provides a platform to network and communicate with others. If you’re currently looking for a new job, connect with any colleagues or co-workers who are already on the platform. Ask the people who know you the best to write a testimonial or recommendation. Social proof from others can help you stand out from the crowd.
