There are millions of articles out there specifically designed to give generic, run-of-the-mill interview advice. This is not one of those articles. Instead, we’re focusing on three aspects of the job interview process that are often overlooked. Keep reading to learn more.
Use body language to your advantage. Chances are good the interviewer doesn’t know you on a personal level. Therefore, it’s important to try and put them at ease. Greet them with a smile and a firm, confident handshake. During the course of your interview, practice good posture and try not to let your nerves get the best of you. Breathe deeply, continue smiling, and speak slowly when answering questions. When you’re nervous, it’s tempting to rush. Try and slow down.
Illustrate your value. What kind of skills and experience will you bring to the organization? How do your unique life and career experience prepare you for the day-to-day challenges of the job for which you’re applying? If you can answer questions like these in a clear and concise manner, you’re more likely to leave a lasting impression on the interviewer. Don’t be afraid to illustrate your expertise with real-life examples. Doing so can make you more relatable.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. You’re a unique individual who brings something original to the table. Don’t sell yourself short. If you love telling jokes, illustrate your sense of humor. If you’re passionate about new technologies, bring that up. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not advising you be overly casual, but displaying some of your personality is always a good idea.
